Amali is picture perfect! She is easy to recognise with her dainty little tusks that wing out in either direction. Unfortunately, she is also known for her distinctive trunk — the tip was severed by a poacher’s snare. Despite this, our girl has adapted marvellously and shines in our Umani herd.Amali is still very young, but she is already a remarkably adept nanny and an excellent ‘scout.’ The Keepers say she reminds them of a young Lima Lima, alerting them of danger and tracking down any wayward members of the herd. —Amali means ‘hope’ in Swahili — and she is certainly a symbol of hope coming from very difficult beginnings.
